Last year was a very impressive year for Asus not only in their worldwide market but their phones had a Great Impact to the Indian Market as well. Asus got it right with the Appreciated Zen UI and its intelligent design also the impressive hardware and the most important ie. Pricing Factor being very reasonable.
A Year ago at the CES (Consumer Electronic Show) Asus chose to release its successful trio of ZenFone 6, ZenFone 5 and the PadFone 4, three phones with a brilliant pricing factor. According to the company, the threesome were selling at a rate of 1.5 million units a month in the last quarter of 2014.
This Year at the CES, Asus brought out two new phones. The ZenFone 2, single 5.5-inch display flagship with 4GB RAM, and a camera-focused phone with 3x Optical Zoom, The ZenFone Zoom.
The Taiwanese handset maker revealed that the new Asus ZenFone 2 will be available in Q2 2015 (March) in several colour variants – Ceramic White, Glacier Gray, Glamour Red, Osmium Black, and Sheer Gold. It will be available at a starting price of $199 (Rs. 12,600 approximately).
The Asus ZenFone Zoom, on the other hand, will be available in Q2 2015 (April-June 2015) in Glacier White and Meteorite Black colours, and has been priced at $399 (Rs. 25,300 approximately) before taxes.
The Eye-catching feature of the Zenphone 2 is having an industry first 4GB RAM.
It is powered by a 64-bit Intel Atom Z3580 quad-core processor running at 2.3GHz. Notably, the smartphone will be available in two RAM variants – one with 2GB of LPDDR3 RAM, and another with 4GB of LPDDR3 RAM. Both versions will support expandable storage via microSD card (up to 64GB). It will be available in three inbuilt storage models – 16GB/32GB/64GB.
It runs company’s brand new Asus ZenUI based on Google’s Android 5.0 Lollipop. The ZenFone 2 features a large 5.5-inch full-HD (1080×1920 pixels) IPS display offering a pixel density of 403ppi. The display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3.
The smartphone sports a 13-megapixel rear camera with f/2.0-aperture, autofocus lens with dual-color Real Tone flash. There is a 5-megapixel front camera also onboard the ZenFone 2 with 85-degree wide-angle lens. Asus’s Zen UI packs few camera improvement tools such as low light mode, backlight (HDR) mode, enhanced beautification mode, manual mode, and zero shutter lag.
The Asus ZenFone 2 supports dual Micro-SIMs (GSM+GSM) and comes with 4G LTE (Cat. 4) connectivity support apart from 3G, GPRS/ EDGE, GPS/ A-GPS, Bluetooth, Glonass, Wi-Fi, USB OTG, and NFC.
It is powered by a 3000mAh battery and the Asus claims with fast-charging technology, the ZenFone 2 can recharge up to 60 percent in just 39 minutes. It includes sensors such as accelerometer, proximity, ambient-light, gyroscopic, and digital compass.
Like the ZenFone 2, the ZenFone Zoom has a 13-megapixel rear camera but it also features 10 element lenses, 3X optical zoom, and up to 12X digital zoom. It also offers optical image stabiliser and a fast focus feature. Other core specs are the same as the ZenFone 2, except for colour options: the Zoom is only available in black or white. Storage capacity on the device is also yet to be determined.
Both these phones run on the Latest Zen UI based on Android 5.0 Lollipop, ZenUI features that come with the ZenFone 2 include its collection of touch gestures under the ZenMotion brand, There’s SnapView, which promises to keep private files separate from work files (“You don’t need to have two phones any more,” joked Asus chairman Jonney Shih at the launch, “unless they’re Asus ZenFones”) and Trend Micro built in to the ZenUI browser.
Overall these devices look fantastic on paper and it will be seen as to how successful they are when one compares them to the Zenfones that were launched last year. Interesting Asus didn’t release any low budget phones like they did last year with the Zenfone 4. Given the overhaul in specs though of their latest phones, it wouldn’t be surprising to see a slightly more expensive device than the first generation.
