The Karbonn Titanium S5 Plus is one of the best phones that Karbonn Mobiles has to offer at the moment. It retails for around ₹ 10,000 and has a good spec. sheet to justify its price tag. It also looks similar to a very popular model from an international giant. The performance is also good and to know more about it and the other deciding factors please go through our review of Karbonn S5 Plus.
Karbonn Mobiles makes some very good phones but many people shun Karbonn phones as they don’t receive a very good after sales support. For some this is not a concern. We all know that electronics items are not as reliable as the mechanical products. Even you newly bought Alienware laptop might stop working tomorrow. So, don’t be afraid to try something new.
Our Promise
We review phones with an obsessive focus on the experience that really matters to you. We don’t care about specifications, we will tell you what you will really feel while using the phone. And needless to say, we maintain total integrity and truthfulness in our reviews.Don’t Miss- Why We Are Different
The price segment from 7-10,000 INR is very competitive these days as the most of the wannabe android users don’t want to shell too much money for trying the new eco-system. This segment has some very popular phones like Xolo Q800, Lava Iris 458Q, Samsung Galaxy Star Pro, Galaxy S Duos 2 etc and trust me, the Karbonn Titanium S5 Plus stands up to the competition.
User Experience
Design
First Impression– The Karbonn S5 plus doesn’t have a wide bezel around the display and looks somewhat similar to the LG G2 and we like it.
Material used– It is made up of shiny plastic and has a thin chrome plated bezel around it.
The phone is not very heavy and its good build quality can make almost anyone like its looks.
User Interface
Gone are the days when Karbonn phones used to run on stock android. The Titanium S5 plus runs on android 4.2.2 JB with some UI customizations on top.
There are options to change the launcher and menu transition effects, fonts etc. You can also choose from 2 in-built themes.
The OS runs smooth on it and is very responsive.
Display
It sports a 5 inch IPS display having a resolution of 540×960 pixels. The pixel density is 220 approx. which makes reading text an enjoyable experience. The colors are slightly saturated and look rich.
Though we are not complaining, the video watching experience could have been much better it was an HD display.
The screen is reflective and prone to smudges. We advise you to install a good quality matte finish screen guard to avoid these problems.
Single handed Reach– Not Possible.
Typing
There is no landscape mode in the phone so you’ll have to rely on the portrait style only.
The typing in portrait mode is good but it’s not even close to what we felt while testing the Xolo Q500.
Auto prediction and correction are there but aren’t of much help. The absence of any type of gesture input hurts the most.
Install some 3rd party keyboard app to make typing a pleasurable experience.
Browsing
The Karbonn Titanium S5 Plus excels at browsing, all thanks to its quad-core processor. The scrolling, pinch-to-zoom, double tap to zoom work just fine.
The default browser also has an incognito mode built-in which removes all the traces of your private browsing sessions.
Pre-installed browsers– Google Chrome, Maxthon Browsers & Opera Mini

Camera
The 8MP camera of the Karbonn S5 plus can capture photos with a resolution of 3840×2160 pixels. The captured images lack fine details but the colors are more towards the natural side.
Photos don’t look like they were taken from an 8MP shooter.
It can also capture 1080p videos @ 17Mbps but they are stored in the older .3gp format. The recorded audio has 2 channels with bit-rate of 128Kbps and 24GHz as the sampling rate.
The front 0.3MP VGA camera is there for making video calls.
Here are some camera benchmarks which might come in handy:

Audio
The loudspeaker located the back produces just average audio levels. This means that you won’t be able to make out if your phone is ringing even in noisy indoors.
Below average audio levels
The sound coming out of the speaker also gets muffled when you don’t hold it properly.
The stock music player has standard features like shuffle and repeat. You can also configure the music player to auto download album art and pause when the earphones are unplugged.

Hardware Performance
The Titanium S5 Plus from Karbonn has a quad-core chipset from MediaTek. The MT6582 chip has 4 cores with their maximum frequency set to 1.3 GHz each. The Mali 400 MP2 GPU is clocked at 416 MHz to take care of your gaming needs.
The hardware looked good on paper and didn’t disappoint us even in the real world performance tests. We don’t believe in checking the benchmark scores for judging the performance but we ran the AnTuTu benchmarking app just out of curiosity for testing this new chip.
It scored 16833 in AnTuTu which is very close to the 16793 of Nexus 4. We are saying anything about it but one thing is certain:
Don’t under-estimate the performance of this MT6582 chip

Apps & Games
Like I mentioned in the above section, this phone is good for playing games.
We cannot guarantee about the frame rate of high-end games like Nova3, Modern Combat 4 etc. but the popular lesser graphics intensive games like Temple Run Oz, Subway Surfers etc run very smooth on it.
Battery
The phone does get heated up after playing games for more than a few minutes but nothing too much.
The battery backup is also too less for power users. The 1800 mAh of charge is not enough to power up the phone for a whole day of moderate usage.
Connectivity
- HSPA+
- GPS
- FM Radio
- Bluetooth
- WiFi Hotspot & WiFi Direct
- NFC
- OTG
- HDMI slot
Final Verdict
A treat for gamersThe Titanium S5 Plus is a complete entertainment package. It supports all of the popular audio and video formats. Games run buttery smooth on it. The only place where it disappoints is the camera.
So, if you rarely take photos from the phone camera and are willing to buy a local branded phone then you should buy it.

Mobile karbon titanium octane plus is getting heated up within five minutes of opening..If it is continued the mobile stops working. If the mobile is shut down it will pick up after one hour rest. What is the cause. This prevents its funtioning for more than five or ten minutes. This is a great disadvantage. Can you suggest remidy for this condition.Kesavamurthy
The mobile shuts down due to over-heating. We would suggest that you perform a full system reset. If it doesn’t help then take it to nearest Karbonn Service centre. We hope that your phone is still under warranty.
