Xolo Q1000S, as the name suggests, adds more bells and whistles to the ageing star- the Q1000. One might also think that Xolo is trying to keep up with Apple’s tradition of christening its next smartphone by suffixing an “S” to the name of its previous phone of the same series.
The Q1000S looks lovely and its very sharp display adds icing on the cake.
So, you might be wondering that why am I so excited about this phone?
The price tag. This phone can be yours for INR 14.5K only. Which phone with full-HD display is that affordable?
All right. Just like all the phones it has its own plus and minus points. And for knowing them, read the complete Xolo Q1000S review.

Pros and Cons
What does the Retail Package come with?
- The Handset.
- USB Cable, USB charger, Headphones.
- Warranty Card & Quick Start Guide, SIM door key.
Camera: Better than a VGA
Xolo Q1000S has a 13.32MP camera with AF & LED flash alongwith 5MP front camera. Auto-focus works perfect in image as well as video mode.
The rear camera is pathetic in terms of picking up details from the scene. How can Xolo be such careless for their flagship device?
Is it really better than a VGA.
Yes it is! The images look great on the phone. When zoomed on our laptop, we couldn’t distinguish between the leaves of the trees in the background.
I had to check if I’d shot that using rear cam or front cam. Unfortunately, it was the rear cam. The trees seem to be water-coloured (Check out the screenshot).
I shouldn’t talk much about other camera features as I would advise you to skip the device if you’re interested in photography.
Multimedia:
Audio- Disappointment
The low audio level of Q1000S is very disappointing. The clarity is good but we couldn’t even hear the rock music in moderate traffic area.
The speakers are placed at the lower back of the phone. It has the default music player app like other local phones.
You can go for this phone only if you’re not interested to listen to music (loud) without earphones & you are not in need of loud ringtones.
Formats supported:
- mp3- Yes
- aac- Yes
- wma- No
Video-
Q1000S comes with the default Video Player app. The video play pauses on tapping anywhere on the screen. This might create problems while manually seeking the video.
Formats supported (480p):

Resolution Supported (mp4):

Gallery-
Video thumbnails could play the preview of the video. There is no pinch to zoom or sorting, hiding, sharing option in the gallery.
Notification & Ringtone-
There is no LED indicator present in Q1000S. As mentioned earlier in Audio section, the speakers are very low on producing loud sound. So you’ll have to rely on good vibrations instead of only ringtones.

Hardware Performance: Abundant
Xolo Q1000S is powered by a 1.5GHz quad-core processor having MediaTek MT6589T processor (the better version of MT6589). It has PowerVR SGX544 GPU & 1GB RAM alongwith 16GB internal memory.
Unfortunately there is no SD card slot so you will not get any expandable memory.
Overall, the hardware performance was very good. We tried multi-tasking with the basic apps present in the device (including video play, camera) alongwith games like Temple Run Oz & Subway Surfer. The device did not produced a single significant lag.
Great performance!!

User Experience
i. Design: Metallic
First Impression: Slim & Sleek, Pitch black front & Metallic back.
The flagship from Xolo gets very good points for its design. The slim Q1000S has rounded curves with a pitch black front. The non-removable back is made up of metal.
Sides: Slim, glossy black bezel, single side hardware buttons.
The device is designed similar to Lenovo P780, the powerhouse with 4000mAh battery. But, Q1000S is 30% slimmer with 6.98mm thickness.
Back Panel: Non-removable, metallic.
The hardware buttons are placed on the LHS of the device which makes it difficult while taking screenshots. The SIM tray door is located on the RHS.
The large phone makes you lose the grip when you try to reach the corners.
ii. User Interface: Stock
Xolo gives Android 4.2.1 JellyBean out of the box with Q1000S. As usual, it misses the customized UI layer on the top.
There are very few scenes & themes present by default. It could be comparable with those present in Karbonn Titanium S9.
Customization options available-
i. HOME SCREEN: 2
ii. THEMES: 4
iii. LOCK SCREEN: No
iv. Video Wallpapers: Yes
Overall, the UI is very smooth to operate. There are not many animations but the transitions are good.
iii. Display: Great Combination
Q1000S boasts a 5” IPS screen with a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels (HD). Xolo has again used the famous OGS from its previous devices. I like this combination of IPS displays with One Glass Solution technology.
The colour representation was accurate due to the IPS technology. Sharpness & Contrast was good & there is auto brightness feature available.
Single Handed Reach: Loses Grip on the phone
iv. Typing:
Single Handed: Single-handed typing is good in portrait mode. Unfortunately, there is no Swipe feature available in the device. Auto-correct feature could be very useful.
Dual Handed: Dual-handed typing experience was good due to the 5” display.
Swipe: No
Prediction: Average
Auto-correction: Very Good
Dictionary: Yes
v. Browsing:
Scrolling and pinch-to-zoom features in the default browser works fine. There are no other browsers present out of the box.
Multi-tabs: Yes
Incognito: Yes
Pre-installed: No

Battery: Cool
Xolo Q1000S has a 2500mAh Li-Ion non-removable battery. Inspite of having a metallic back panel, the phone tried its best to keep cool throughout our testing process. Kudos!!
Xolo provides Xolo Power app which is useful for battery optimization.
