Xolo launches one more smartphone to dense the lower range smartphone market- Xolo Q900. This dual-SIM device is priced around ₹ 11,000. The 4.7” HD display makes the phone handy.
Q900 comes with the MediaTek MT6589 chipset having 1.2GHz quad-core. 1GB RAM makes the phone look good on the spec table. But there are some other things to be watched out.
The 4GB internal memory will not help you play multiple high end games inspite of 1GB RAM. I ended up moving many apps to SD card. Check out the in-depth Xolo Q900 review to know if the device is worth buying.
Pros and Cons
What does the Retail Package come with?
- The Handset & 1800mAh Li-Ion battery.
- USB Cable, USB charger, Headphones.
- Warranty Card, Manual & Flip Cover.
First Impression: Same but different kind of Local device.
Looking at first you can easily make out Xolo Q900 is a local device. It has rectangular feel with slight curvy edges. The chrome plated metallic bezel on the sides gives the device much better look.
Sides: Edgy with Metallic bezel.
The sides of the phone have a thin chrome plated silver bezel on four sides. The bottom side of the bezel is thicker than the rest.
The back panel is flimsy plastic having the hardware buttons mounted on both the sides. The back panel is curved at the left & right edges.
Back Panel: Flimsy plastic with hardware buttons.
The hardware buttons are easily reachable using single hand. The phone weighs around 138 grams with its thickness close to 10mm.
ii. User Interface: Stock
Xolo Q900 comes out with Android 4.2.2 with very few customizations.
Overall the device is very smooth to operate but at some points you can see minor lags in the software. Usually the menu pop or showing home screen takes up minor lag.
- HOME SCREEN: 7
- THEMES: No
- LOCK SCREEN: 7
Q900 has a 4.7” HD display (1280 x 720) having pixel density of 312.47ppi. Although the display isn’t IPS this time, it looks crisp & sharp.
The screen is reflective but you can use auto brightness feature available. Smudges get their hold very easily on the screen as well as back. So always check your hands before you use.
Single Handed Reach: A little extension required.
Calling it a 4.7” display, single handed reach shouldn’t have been an issue. But due to the extra space for the capacitive buttons, it tends to lose some grip on the phone.
Single Handed: Typing is easy but it misses Swipe feature.
Dual Handed: Spacious keyboard with missing number keys makes it very easy.
Auto-correction: Very Good
Browsing experience with the default android browser in Xolo Q900 is good. You’ll not find other browsers that will flood up your apps list.
Scrolling, pinch to zoom & double tap zoom worked fine.
Pre-installed Browsers: Android Browser
Audio levels of Q900 are average. Audio clarity is good but speaker misses the expected bass.
Speakers are placed at the bottom side of the back. There is no back panel over the speakers.
It has stock music player which supports all the standard features like- shuffle, repeat, playlist, equaliser, etc. It misses some features like sorting options & player skins.
The music quality from the earphones is pathetic. Music clarity is poor; bass & reverb were missing.

- aac- Yes
- wma- No
- wav- Yes
Q900 comes with its stock video player with no part customized. The video pauses on tapping anywhere on the screen.
There were no lags in seeking 1080p videos. You can watch all your HD & full HD movies on the device with great fun.

Notification & Ringtone-
Q900 sports a MediaTek MT6589 chipset having 1.2GHz quad-core processor. It is coupled with 1GB RAM & 4GB internal memory. This combination did not work out well.
Installing a few games & apps easily floods this memory area. I had to sit & move some of those apps to SD card. So better buy a 16/32GB SD card.
The game play was good without any lags. Overall, the phone is smooth to operate as you have ample RAM available.
Approx. Time (sec)
Q900 has an 8MP rear camera with auto-focus, LED flash & 4x zoom. The front camera is 2MP with 4x zoom & no AF.
The normal pictures taken with the device are not as expected. On zooming in the clicked picture, you’ll see the details aren’t good. Foliage couldn’t be differentiated easily.
Some Ups & Downs!
HDR mode clicked some good images with the sun on the face.
Panorama shots were not very good. Sometimes they had stitching problem where some objects were half invisible.
Low-light photography with the device was very good. The details in the image was preserved using flash & also without flash.
Macro shots are Great!!
Macro shots with Xolo Q900 are, surprisingly, better than many of the branded Samsung, Sony, etc. phones. The minimum distance for a good focussed shot is around 5 to 6cms which gets thumbs up from us.
Video recording with the rear cam is average. There is no secondary mic for noise cancellations. You can use tap to focus while recording. The camera also focuses automatically to the centre if you move the camera.
The front camera is pathetic at work. The photos were very dark & you cannot increase the exposure greater than +1.
|Camera start-up time||~3sec|
|Normal Mode Shutter Delay||<1sec|
|HDR shot time||~4sec|
|Macro Shot Distance||~5-6cms|
Pre-installed Apps & Games
Useful Apps: Backup & Restore, Browser, Compass, Facebook, Xolo Power, To-Do.
Extra Apps: Firewall, Xolo Secure.
Games: No pre-installed games.
Games played on this phone performed very well. I played- Temple Run Oz, Subway Surfer, Dead Trigger 2, GT Racing 2, Fifa 14, Asphalt 8, etc. No lags were seen during the gameplay. I loved playing games on the device.
- 2G, 3G
- Dual SIM
- Wi-Fi with hotspot
- USB 2.0
- FM Radio
- Wi-Fi Direct
- Notification LED
Xolo Q900 comes with a 1800mAh removable Li-Ion battery. Battery doesn’t heat up in normal use. But recording videos, playing games, etc. gets the rear camera area heated up.
The phone performs good but there are some minor lags in the phone. The low internal memory is a huge disappointment to Q900. With 1GB RAM & Full HD support you can enjoy your movies, videos & high end games.
The camera is average & so is its music quality. Overall the phone is good below the price mark of Rs. 11,000.
Recommended: Best Phones under Rs. 15,000.
